Trump's Attorney Is Bold, Beautiful, and Risking Much for Him

An excellent gauge of the effectiveness of a MAGA leader is how much fire and abuse they draw from the Fake News and ruling class.  By that standard Alina Habba, the most prominent of President Donald Trump’s current stable of attorneys, is effective indeed.

Today, Habba stands alone as the one Trump attorney who consistently and vigorously defends the embattled former president not only in court, but before the public and the jackal pack of vicious left-wing media elites.  While other Trump attorneys conduct their litigation carefully in the courtroom only, with an eye towards a financial tomorrow, Habba clearly recognizes that the hour for liberty is nigh and Trump requires strong public advocates.  In the past attorneys could be counted on to defend in public statements even the most despised and blood-soaked criminal clients. It was simply part of their job.  Today, however, MAGA attorneys risk everything when they publicly throw in their lot with the Forty-Fifth President and call out a stacked legal system for trying to do him in.

Into that breach Habba has gone, and continues to go, day after day.  Both in and out of court, Habba is the one Trump attorney who can be counted on to offer a forceful public defense of her uniquely targeted client.

A Star Rises

Born to Chaldean Catholic parents who left Iraq for the United States to escape persecution, Habba enjoyed a quiet career until she met Trump at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club and began representing him.  As Trump’s legal and personal perils grew and his long-standing attorneys apparently ditched him, Habba gained more work—and a much higher profile.  Today, she represents Trump and related parties in a myriad of matters.  Her highest profile assignments have been defending the Trump Organization against a civil action by New York Attorney General Letitia James, and litigating for the former president against sexual-assault and defamation lawsuits filed by writer E. Jean Carroll. 

In both matters Habba has distinguished herself from other Trump counsel in important and obvious ways.  Throughout the litigation waged against him in New York, Trump has been the one to step outside the courtroom and decry the proceedings as witch hunts.  He has done this even though the left-wing judges presiding over both cases have slapped him with gag orders, fined him and/or threatened to refer him for (additional) criminal prosecution, and displayed open bias and hostility against him and his cases.  Habba has been the one legal voice continually willing to speak up for Trump’s cause on those same perilous courthouse steps as well as in media interviews.

Her courage has brought her fame and fortune on the Right (Trump’s Save America PAC alone has reportedly paid her firm almost $2 million).  But as now-fallen Trump lawyers Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis and others have learned, Trump-engendered celebrity can quickly generate 1 million grateful Twitter/X followers and other benefits but at great professional cost.  Recently, prominent RINO attorney George Conway sported a baseball cap in a televised interview with a slogan trumpeting the Left’s coopted version of the “MAGA” acronym.  The cap read:  “Make Attorneys Get Attorneys.”  So has the story been for Trump’s devastated corps of lawyers, especially those who dared to challenge the 2020 elections, virtually all of whom have been mowed down by leftist lawfare.

Habba has come in for considerable abuse for her spirited and unflagging defense of Trump.  She filed a lawsuit on behalf of Trump against Hillary Clinton and others involved in pushing the phony Russiagate scandal.  Predictably a left-wing federal judge dismissed the case (defamation and like actions are allowed freely against political targets on the Right, but not against Clinton and other woke icons in our two-tiered legal system).  When Habba publicly denounced the ruling, the judge hit her and Trump with almost $1 million in sanctions.

Though Trump has personally carried most of the weight in exposing Judge Arthur Engoron’s unfair antics in the New York Attorney General’s litigation, Habba also has sparred robustly with the brazenly biased left-wing jurist.  In one of her boldest actions on Trump’s behalf, Habba criticized Engoron at a press conference for being “unhinged” and for “slamming a table,” among his other ample indicia of bias.

The choppiest waters Habba has encountered have been in the second Carroll trial against Trump.  There she has sparred with ferociously left-wing Judge Lewis Kaplan.  Kaplan denied Trump due process in Carroll I (the writer’s first lawsuit against Trump), facilitating a $5 million jury verdict against him.  This set up Carroll II, the current one-sided defamation trial engineered by Kaplan’s subterfuge in Carroll I (discussed in detail here).  Habba has struggled a few times with presentation of evidence.  Her missteps have earned thundering, scornful rebukes and lectures from Kaplan, all in front of the jury.  While Habba’s relatively limited trial experience has allowed leftist legal commentators to belittle her, Trump clearly values the other critical attributes she brings to his defense.  No Trump attorney was going to have an easy time in Kaplan’s two-tiered courtroom, and Habba has taken the blows as well as anybody could.

Rare Valor

Nonlawyers can’t fully appreciate the courage Habba has shown in standing up to the New York legal wrecking crew seeking to demolish Trump’s liberty and fortune.  Publicly criticizing these maniacal Trump-hating judges is certain to embitter them against her for the rest of her legal career.  Worse still, Habba is inviting long-term, collective attacks from fellow leftist judges and other angry robed brethren.  That she is financially secure now does not lessen the reality that should she continue to draw abuse from the ruling class, that status may eventually crumble as it has for previously formidable legal giants who pitched their tent with MAGA.  The recent indictment and bankruptcy of America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani, formerly a beloved and prosperous ex-politician, are a stark illustration of these hazards.

The legal warriors charging a casualty-strewn battlefield for Trump today are genuine heroes of liberty and justice.  Shakespeare’s words of Henry V and Crispin’s Day are as true of Habba and her tiny band as they were of those the Bard described:  “the fewer men, the greater share of honor.”  So it is for those “happy few” still willing to offer Trump a zealous defense in what has turned out to be the most dangerous forum of all:  an American courtroom.
