When President Donald Trump says he is under “total assault” because he leads in the polls for the GOP nomination, a man never known for understatement has managed to achieve just that. As fierce as the onslaught against him has been to date, Trump and the rest of us have only experienced the first whiff of grapeshot.
That is not to discount what Trump already has endured. He has been investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice practically nonstop since his election in 2016—first by Mueller-led Russiagate prosecutors, and now no-holds-barred by the Biden administration. For all his outer strength and bravado, the professional wreckage in his life has mounted steadily. Trump’s net worth has plummeted. His charity, the Trump Foundation, has been destroyed, fined and forced to close by the Democrat-controlled New York Attorney General’s Office. Now the same prosecutors seek to cripple the Trump corporation with a $250 million lawsuit and other potential penalties in a case scheduled for trial later this year.
Trump is in the midst of a civil trial for sexual assault, the plaintiff’s legal fees financed by a Democratic megadonor. He’s been impeached, not once but twice. He’s been deprived of reelection amidst unprecedented chicanery.
But that’s nothing compared to the evil that is headed his way.
Trump’s Coming Criminal Gauntlet
Already Trump has been criminally indicted on 34 felony counts related to the alleged Stormy Daniels payment. He was booked and arraigned in Manhattan amidst media coverage of his motorcade reminiscent (no doubt deliberately) of helicopters filming O.J. Simpson in the Ford Bronco. The same Manhattan District Attorney’s Office already has successfully prosecuted Allen Weisselberg, his company’s chief financial officer, and sent him to jail. Should Trump be convicted of all charges and the counts stacked for sentencing, he faces up to 136 years in prison. While this is unlikely, Trump faces a serious likelihood of incarceration in subsequent criminal cases because, if previously convicted, he will then have “priors,” or prior felony convictions that enhance criminal sentencing in most jurisdictions. Those other criminal cases are in the pipeline.
In Georgia, the war drums are beating loudly. Fani Willis, District Attorney of Fulton County, issued a letter last week stating she will announce “charging decisions” in the latter half of this summer related to her investigation of Trump’s alleged tampering with the 2020 election in Georgia. Willis sent her letter with melodramatic effect to the Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency, urging them to prepare for possible “acts of violence” when those decisions are announced. Hard-left MSNBC legal analyst Glenn Kirschner giddily inferred (and probably rightly) that given the nature and contents of Willis’ letter, a Trump indictment is coming in Georgia.
In Washington, pit bull leftist special counsel Jack Smith has just obtained the grand-jury testimony of Vice President Mike Pence, who ceased his legal fight to avoid the subpoena. Pence’s testimony has been widely and obviously interpreted as one of the final pieces of evidence Smith needs to collect before seeking indictments regarding the events of January 6.
The pending pile of Trump indictments will signify as great a transformation of the American Republic as Caesar’s crossing the Rubicon meant for the Roman Republic. Once fully unleashed, the leftist lawfare targeting the preeminent critic of the ruling class will mean our republic, as bequeathed to us by the founders of this nation, will cease to exist.
There are at least two other major prongs of the three-headed Justice Department investigation into Trump, and the hard-charging Smith controls all three. Those are the classified-documents investigation centered on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and a potential wire-fraud case alleging the Trump campaign misled donors in soliciting contributions for post-2020 election litigation. In this latter endeavor, Smith presumptuously sets himself up as a consumer fraud czar for the nation. But the effort appears to be quite serious.
In other words, Trump is facing at least four more imminent, politically motivated, wicked indictments this calendar year, all emanating from determined partisan prosecutors. Let’s be conservative and say he is only indicted twice more. By the time the first votes are cast in next year’s presidential primaries, Trump will be under at least three indictments—and genuinely facing criminal incarceration.
Please pause for a moment to take in that fact and reflect on what these atrocities mean for our nation. Our republic presents itself to the world as one in which political parties do not resort to abusing the law to persecute and subjugate their opponents. Yet even as leftist Democrats complain that January 6 was an unpatriotic, lawless exercise to stop the peaceful transfer of democratic power, they and their allies have hypocritically ramped up leftist lawfare to the point that anybody who fundamentally challenges their rule risks being jailed. These trends, building for years, finally have reached this cynical culmination.
With the possible exception of the Mar-a-Lago classified-documents probe, all of the potential Trump indictments would be issued in deep-blue jurisdictions. Any January 6 case would certainly be filed in Washington, D.C. There, the (other) January 6 defendants haven’t exactly been given the white-glove treatment by the criminal-justice system as they are marched through the process to virtually preordained guilty verdicts.
A Republic No More?
While all of these events in isolation generate tremendous news coverage, few observers are tracking and analyzing all of this systematically. Resurgence podcast is, to my knowledge, the only media outlet providing such dedicated analysis in the weekly series “Trump Under Siege.” This ongoing treatment is offered among other reasons because the relentless and brutal leftist lawfare deployed against Trump is decisively altering the character of our republic.
Having gained their foothold in America’s law schools decades ago and subsequently overwhelmed the nation’s power centers and institutions, a militant, advancing Left will show they can deploy criminal prosecutions and related attacks on those who dare defy them. This ultimate weapon will be used to subdue and confine their most intractable opponents and to impose their will on the masses regardless of their vote.
While I write regularly of lesser subjects such as the Bud Light boycott and the sacking of Tucker Carlson, this is not meant to distract from the central events taking place before our eyes. The gravity of the ordeal Trump is experiencing is understood all too well by people in other nations, where their civic lives are defined by despotism. But most Americans still seem not to grasp the full horror that awaits us, one that is creeping, inevitably, out of the darkness into plain sight. Trump’s coming crucible has no parallel in American history.
To defeat these forces, patriots must do better than they have in the past, on far too many occasions, when their warriors have fallen to leftist fire. Trump cannot be deserted no matter how ugly and humiliating the attacks. Realistic counterattacks must be conceived and launched.
Our Republican leaders, whose job it is to defend the values of their constituents, should put on their thinking caps and offer something better than another round of worthless congressional hearings or futile appeals to red-state prosecutors to retaliate. History and a Higher Power will judge them and the RINO sellouts who sowed the seeds of this crisis; by the steadfastness and abilities they display at this time they can distinguish and, in many cases, redeem themselves. Resurgence will continue to do its part through its podcasts and specific proposals such as the Fortress Strategy.
A series of battles that will determine the very integrity of our nation will play out through the 2024 elections. The outcome will tell us if self-government survives in a nation that calls itself the land of the free, but where that very slogan is increasingly being put on trial alongside Trump.
God bless you for putting into words what I and many Americans fear is happening;shocking incarceration and prosecution of J6 folks broke everything I thought our country stood for and my brother died for(France WW11)Trump must be one of the toughest men;subjecting his life to 24/7 hatred by "fake news"and weak minded folks believing without basis ugly evil lies! No wonder he values loyalty;so many have written'fake books'
to make a few bucks off Trump association!
Thank you,Sir🙏🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🙏
And where is the GOP leadership?
